Come Out And Play is a gay and lesbian social group based in the greater Rochester, New York area. Our members range in age from mid twenties to early forties. The group is geared towards younger adults, but all are welcome. Our goals are to get out and be active. We plan activities that allow us to socialize and have fun. New members are always welcome, and there are no membership dues.

Began in 1992, Come Out And Play (COAP) started with an initial membership of 12 people getting together for volleyball, bowling and theme dinners. Our range of activities has continually expanded and now includes our annual Halloween and Christmas Parties, weekend trips to Montreal and Toronto, various craft activities, movie nights and even a financial investment group!

The group meets on a monthly basis at the local gay community center - The Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley to plan events for the following months. Our meetings are very informal (if not a little sarcastic..) and anyone is free to drop in to learn more about us and participate. Any member is free to propose and host an event. In the past our events have ranged from "Twister pajama party" to city architecture bike hikes to . . .

C.O.A.P. members come from a variety of backgrounds and careers in Rochester and the surrounding areas. Many members are active in other areas of Rochester's gay community such as Lambda(Kodak), Galaxe(Xerox), Greater Rochester Gay and Lesbian Business Forum, ImageOut! and more! (please see our links page!) Reflective of this diversity, C.O.A.P.'s members also occupy a wide area on the spectrum of coming out. While not a closeted group, C.O.A.P. can provide a safe, friendly and supportive atmosphere for a person who has made a conscious decision to come out and is looking for the first step.

Throughout it's short history, C.O.A.P. has been a proud member of the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, the parent organization of many of Rochester's Gay Community organizations. The GAGV is located at 179 Atlantic Avenue in downtown Rochester. Many members of C.O.A.P. have worked to put this site together for your information. Please take a moment to check us out and leave us your comments!
